Kassiopi is the largest village in the northeast of the island and is unique among Corfu’s resorts in having both a very picturesque setting and a fair amount of history.
This lovely town and surrounding area offers something for everyone. The Harbour and the busy town center is offset by the quiet and tranquility of a short walk around the headland. As you walk around the harbour glance up to your left and on the hillside you will see the remains of Kassiopi Castle. The remains overlook the harbour. The walk around the village is lovely day and night. Sit in one of the bars on the harbour front and watch the world go by!! Kassiopi is a main port for trips all over the island of Corfu by boat and coach.
Avlaki, which is 10min walk away from our resort, has a beautiful long bay and clear waters – a few villas and just two traditional Tavernas exist there. There are also numerous rocky deserted coves nearby, where you can explore! Also, in Avlaki can take sailing and horse riding lessons. Right next to Avlaki is the region of Agios Stefanos (6 kilometres) with its little port and its unique fish tavernas.
Going further east, visit the beach of Kerasia with its turquoise waters. Kalami is the other favourite village of the author Lawrence Durrel and if you rent a boat you must stop for a bite at Agni place,where you can find lovely fish tavernas!
4 kilometres west to Kassiopi, one of the island’s best sandy beaches, Kalamaki is located and right after follows the sandy beach of Agios Spiridon; both of which are worth visiting. especially for families with kids. For those of you seeking adventure, it is worth taking a jeep ride or hike tour to the mountainous region with the old trails and residences, such as Palies Sinies. You should not miss out on the traditional Venetian village of Palia Perithia (12 kilometres), which was built during the 16th century, with each family building its own church, and where today a significant number of buildings have been renovated. You could tour narrow stone paths and stop at one of the four small tavernas of the village.
It is truly worth the effort to tour the narrow stone paths as well as stop at one of the four small tavernas of the village. Do not forget to visit the Pantokratora’s monastery which is located on the highest peak of the island and offers a panoramic view of the region but generally the mountainous paths transpire exceptional beauty and the different architecture and atmosphere of the mountainous villages are a special experience.
Finally we should state that Corfu Town with one of the best historical centres in Europe is ideal for strolls through its narrow side streets and has a very good market. Corfu offers far more than just a beach holiday. Therefore,if you are visiting for more than a week, it is well worth taking the time to explore it!
